8. Great Witley, St. Michael and All Angels

This working Anglican parish church is probably the finest Baroque, or Italianate church in northern Europe! Dating from 1735, the unique interior features wondrous ceiling paintings, incomparable stained and enamelled glass and intricately carved wood and marble.

The paintings are said to include the first representation of a Downs Syndrome child and also show angels with TB scars.

The church has been in the news very recently as the Dome has been unveiled showing its new covering of 23 carat gold.

Open every day of the year 10 am to 6 pm (4 pm in winter). Stewards are usually on duty. Refreshments are available in the adjacent Tea Rooms.Witley Court with its stunning fountains adjoins the church.
